Voice over IP (VoIP)

IP Telephony (or Internet Telephony), is a very clever technology that allows you to have telephone conversations over the internet.

The advantages over traditional telephones calls are:

Lower costs per call, (often free) which is especially good for cross continental calls
There is no set up cost (assuming you have a broadband internet connection)

You can take advantage of new features as and when they come out as IP telephony is just a software program which will be updated just like other software such as Internet Explorer.
